"RONG," which translates to "melted" in Chinese, is a mixed-media exploration of the profound connections between families and loved ones, delving into the intertwined nature of life's dualities. This project crafts surreal scenarios that emphasize the significance of memories embedded within objects. The narrative unfolds through a combination of moving and still images, seamlessly integrated with recorded family phone calls. A recurring motif is 'butter,' a cherished souvenir often brought back by older family members upon their return from business trips during the artist's childhood. This project captures the essence of familial bonds and the enduring impact of cherished objects. It stands as a testament to the power of memory, transcending physical distance and uniting individuals even in the face of separation.
The second part of the "RONG" project involves the creation of butter sculptures. An event and table set were created to further the narrative with an on-site sharing table where butter transforms into carriers of memories and emotions. The butter shapes are inspired by furniture and retro electronics, while the flavors—smoked sea salt, seaweed, lavender lemon, white sesame miso, and dark chocolate pine nuts—draw from childhood snacks. Guests are invited to deconstruct and enjoy the 'sculpture' through a comprehensive sensory experience. In creating offline "dining experiences," the aim is to invoke a space where imagination flourishes, boundaries are broken, and dialogue thrives. These blended spaces, curated with meticulous attention to detail, serve as a canvas to tell stories, provoke thought, and evoke emotions.
